The Yappie is Named a Top Finalist in the 2022 Gold Futures Challenge
The nonpartisan publication, which is dedicated to tracking the rise of AAPI political power and fiscally sponsored by AAJA, could receive up to $100,000 in grant funding after a public vote.
WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Yappie, a volunteer-run newsroom fiscally sponsored by the Asian American Journalists Association (AAJA), could secure up to $100,000 to bolster its coverage of Asian American and Pacific Islander politics after emerging as a top 10 finalist in the 2022 Gold Futures Challenge.
The national philanthropic grant competition — hosted by Asian American Futures and Gold House — awards $500,000 to eligible projects that serve AAPI communities. Last month, The Yappie advanced to the final round of the contest, where prize amounts ranging from $25,000 to $100,000 are determined by a public vote.

Founded in 2019, The Yappie is a nonpartisan publication dedicated to tracking the policy news and activism affecting AAPI communities. In May, AAJA announced that The Yappie would become an AAJA-sponsored project eligible for grants, and the organization currently accepts tax-deductible contributions on The Yappie‘s behalf.
